Likely due to the negative image presently that oil has with the GOM BP mess. As a result, oil companies and indeed the product get punished.

This is not an excuse for BP, who were sloppy and lazy in their safety measures. For that matter, it is not an excuse for the US Department of Energy. Who were also less than diligent in their permitting and monitoring. Something you will not hear from Obama!
