I am thinking that a "low-ball" offer would be imprudent given the players involved. Teck needs talented guys like Elmer to scout out the lands and work them up for the major. I recall that charity photo of Elmer and Don Lindsay holding the cheque together with others. I think Don Lindsay is far to sophisticated and professional to play around and imperil a deal such as CUU with a low-baller.
Importantly, I get the strong sense that billionaire Senor Echevaria didn't just fall off the turnip truck either. I think he would be insulted by a low-ball offer and get back on his private jet and return to Mexico City.
My belief is that whatever the end deal is will be fair and reasonable. There aren't any surprises left. As I say, Teck will negotiate with a longer term relationship in mind as far as Elmer is concerned. There is a good old expression that holds true even in the Golden Triangle: "Good help is hard to find."
Gold luck to all.
