I get photos sent monthly of daily life in Korla and Urumqi ; it is startling to see the number of construction cranes in the background of many pictures. Old China is being dismantled and it is being replaced at a feverish pace. One caption caught my eye a few months back ; " Everyone has a car." These places are near the oil patch so it is easy to say it is just trappings of the petroleum industry however it is evident that China has lifted the vail and is now flirting with exploding onto the world scene as a leader in industry and commerce. This tide will not be slowing down or diminishing soon.
