The Apache indian tribe is vigorously fighting the Resolution copper mine ( owned by Rio Tinto and BHP ). Claiming the mine in Superior Arizona ( about 30 miles from Van Dyke in Globe Az. ) will ruin their sacred lands. The Resolution mine is planned to be a 40 year mine that will employ over 2000 workers. The Apache say they have inhabited whats named the Oak Flats land since time immemorial and they believe that the sacred land contains their ancestors spirits and that the mine will not only disturb the spirits in the land but will prevent the spirits from visiting the new generations of the Apache people. The Apache are suing to block a federal land swap that would hand the land over to Rio Tinto and BHP.
