There is a unified Can/US effort to create N. America critical mineral supply chains, which they've publicly stated.

So politics is driving the effort to wean off China with our own supply...while simultaneously denying them N. American minerals. Myself, and others, have speculated about more smelters being built under this strategy, perhaps even in the Golden Triangle. This is consistent with all the battery plants in Ontario setting up operations, knowing that their mineral feedstocks will be secured going forward.
