Kenneth (Ken) R. Shannon P.Geo
PRESIDENT, CEO & DIRECTOR
Mr. Shannon received formal training in geology at the University of British Columbia with a B.Sc. (Hons) in 1975 and a M.Sc. in 1982. Since graduation in 1975 he has been involved with the mining exploration industry in Western and Eastern Canada, as well as international assignments. This experience includes nine years at Chevron Minerals Ltd., starting in 1981. While at Chevron in the early 1980’s, he led the team which discovered and brought to pre-feasibility the Golden Bear Mine in northern B.C. (1.75 million tons of 0.32 oz/ton gold).
Mr. Shannon has been active in the junior resource sector since 1989 and as President of Corriente Resources Inc. has raised over $50 Million for mining exploration in South America. These funds have been mainly directed towards development of copper and gold projects in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina, leading to the discovery or confirmation of the Taca-Taca deposit in Argentina (>400 Million tonnes @ 0.6% copper) and the Corriente Copper Belt in Ecuador (>600 Million tonnes @ 0.8% copper).
Through superior performance in an initial joint venture with BHP Billiton, Mr. Shannon was able to negotiate a global exploration alliance with the largest mining company in the world.
Since 1991 Mr. Shannon has successfully managed junior companies at a senior executive level including all aspects of project selection, venture capital raising and team building.
Daniel (Dan) A. Carriere
SENIOR VICE- PRESIDENT
Mr. Carriere is a founding partner and significant shareholder of Corriente Resources Inc. and is responsible for corporate development and investor and shareholder relations. During the past 15 years, Mr. Carriere has been instrumental in the development and financing of small to medium capitalized companies, both private and public, in Canada and the USA.
Mr. Carriere was also a Director of ID Biomedical Corporation and was a significant shareholder in ID Biomedical since the Company's initial public offering in 1991 and its growth from an initial $3 million market capitalization to $1.7 billion, the value of the company’s recent takeover offer from Glaxo Smith Kline.
Darryl F. Jones C.A.
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER & CORPORATE SECRETARY
Mr. Jones received his formal training as a Chartered Accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers (1981-1987, Senior Audit Manager) after having graduated from Simon Fraser University with a B.A. (Majors in Business Administration and Economics) in 1981.
While with PwC, Mr. Jones was a member of or led PwC audit teams reporting on several of BC’s largest mining and forestry companies, and consulted to or performed statutory reviews of a number of PwC clients’ corporate financings and reorganizations.
Since leaving PwC in 1987, he has been involved with a number of private and public company start-up situations in Canada and the USA, having held senior management roles such as Chief Financial Officer, Vice-President, Finance or President.
Mr. Jones has been active in developing public company operations since 1987 and has been a key Management team member in development-stage corporate financings, while responsible for all aspects of regulatory compliance, operational budgeting and risk management.
Richard (Rick) P. Clark LLB
DIRECTOR
Mr. Clark is a lawyer and practiced mining and securities law in British Columbia from 1987 to 1993 when he left the active practice of law to become President of Tombstone Explorations Co. Ltd., a mineral exploration and development company. Mr. Clark directed Tombstone through an aggressive Latin American acquisition and mineral development program until November 1999, when he joined the Lundin Group of companies. Until January 2005 Mr. Clark was President and CEO of Atacama Minerals Corp. and was responsible for the initial development of Atacama's world class industrial mineral project in Chile. In 2004, Mr. Clark directed the acquisition of Red Back Mining NL, an Australian company with a gold development project in Ghana, West Africa. Red Back's Chirano Gold Project achieved commercial production in October 2005 and has since produced over 200,000 ounces of gold. Mr. Clark is a Director of Red Back Mining Inc. and Atacama Minerals Corp.
Dr. Anthony (Tony) Holler MD
DIRECTOR & CHAIRMAN
Mr. Holler was formerly the Chief Executive Officer and a founder of ID Biomedical Corporation and joined the Corriente Board of Directors in 2003. Dr. Holler held a number of executive positions with IDB, an integrated biotechnology company dedicated to the development of innovative vaccine products which operates in research, development, manufacturing, sales and marketing from its facilities in Canada and in the United States. After becoming CEO of ID Biomedical, the company grew from a market capitalization of approximately $50 Million to $1.7 billion, which was equal to the company’s takeover value paid by Glaxo Smith Kline.
Prior to founding IDB, Dr. Holler served as an emergency room physician at University Hospital at the University of British Columbia. Currently, he is a member of the British Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Holler is also the Chairman of CRH Medical Corporation, a director of Response Biomedical Corp. and the Chairman of Inviro Medical.
G. Ross McDonald C.A.
DIRECTOR
Mr. McDonald received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia in 1964. He subsequently received his designation as a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia in October 1968.
From 1968 until 1973, Mr. McDonald practiced with Price Waterhouse in Canada and in Australia. From 1974 until 1984, Mr. McDonald worked in private partnerships except for a two year period from 1980 to 1982 when he was a senior officer in a junior resource company.
For the past 15 years, Mr. McDonald has been in public practice with his own firm and then joined Smythe Ratcliffe Chartered Accountants in 2005. Working principally with clients related to mining and mineral exploration, he is also involved as director of several junior resource companies. Mr. McDonald served as Chief Financial Officer of Corriente Resources from April 4, 1997 to January 7, 2004.
Dale C. Peniuk, BComm, C.A.
DIRECTOR
Mr. Peniuk received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia in 1982. He subsequently received his designation as a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia in 1986.
Until 2006, Mr. Peniuk was an assurance partner with KPMG’s Vancouver office specializing in the mining area and was the leader of KPMG’s Vancouver office mining industry group. He was the lead audit engagement partner for a number of KPMG’s Vancouver mining company clients, including several companies with advanced development projects, producing mines and smelter/refinery operations, primarily in North and South America and in Australia.
Mr. Peniuk has extensive experience assisting Canadian and foreign companies to register their securities in Canada, the United States and elsewhere, including obtaining listings for companies on the TSX and the TSX Venture Exchanges in Canada, the NYSE, AMEX and NASD in the United States and AIM in London. In addition to his expertise with Canadian GAAP and reporting standards, he has significant experience dealing with US GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards. Mr. Peniuk also has been actively involved in the corporate finance area for his clients, including assistance with financings and due diligence on potential merger and acquisition opportunities and divestiture transactions.
Mr. Peniuk has been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia’s Public Company Technical Forum since 2000 and is currently the Chair of that committee. Mr. Peniuk has also made numerous technical presentations, including topics such as "How to go Public on the TSX and TSX Venture Exchange" and "Financial Reporting in Canada".
Mr. Peniuk currently provides financial consulting services to companies in the mining industry and serves as a director of six other public companies/reporting issuers.
David G. Unruh LLB
DIRECTOR
Mr. Unruh was born and raised in Manitoba. He attained his B.A. in 1966 and his LLB in 1970 from the University of Manitoba. In 1979, Mr. Unruh was awarded an honorary Certified General Accountant degree.
Mr. Unruh joined Westcoast Energy Inc. as Senior Vice President, Law and Corporate Secretary in 1993 and continued in that role until March 14, 2002. From March 15, 2002 until his retirement on April 1, 2003, he was Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Duke Energy Gas Transmission's North American operations following which from April 1, 2003 to June 30, 2005 he became a non-executive Vice Chair of both Westcoast Energy Inc. and Union Gas Limited. Prior to his move to British Columbia to join Westcoast Energy, Mr. Unruh practiced business law in Winnipeg, Manitoba most recently as a partner of Aikins, MacAulay & Thorvaldson, Barristers and Solicitors.
David Unruh is a director of Union Gas Limited, Ontario Power Generation Inc., Pacific Northern Gas Ltd., Corriente Resources Inc., Canada Line Rapid Transit Inc., The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company, The Wawanesa Life Insurance Company, The Wawanesa General Insurance Company and Globe Foundation of Canada.
