The point many have made in the past is to lower the gold price the US Govt needs help from the rest of the world. In the past the major powers dumped gold in concert to supress/depress the price which drove retail out and then they bought it back at a thirty or fourty % discount, reinflated the FICA money and netted the big banking boys a tidy profit.

Late, most govt's. are hording gold and if we try to dump, it will get snached up now. How much do you think we have left? European banks decided not to help us a few weeks ago- and kept their interest rates high. I think it is too late for the US.

There are no tricks left in the bag and because we are coming up to an election - Nothing will get done by either party because of political games. We have been uncoupled from the end of the world's economic train and left to survive on our own. I wonder if the EOD run up had anything to do with the wording at the end of the financial statement, which was positive, and someone got a glance at it early.
