The more involved and vested the Russians are in Vz, the more political and military support he'll get from Russian. He's buying protection from the West. Not so much for his country... more for his own sake.

When it comes time to leave I can see him staging a take-over of the government and suspecting the constitution. He'll have a well equiped army and "Soviet" support. (Yeah... the SOVIETS are back)
