Well Hondo that is a good question, why are there institutions buying?

So far the usual suspects are in KRY and have always been in and out of KRY. Take Tradewinds for example they previously had a large position in KRY then sold most of it then they turned around and took an even larger position and have sold some but not all since.

US Global investors look to be gold traders as well and have been in and out of KRY many times.

I am more curious about the new faces that have just added, Pyramis and West Face Capital, why? Don't know. West Face took a large position in Gold Reserve and in one of their 13G's included a letter to their BOD on what they would like to see the company do going forward. Is that West Face's reason with KRY, again I don't know.

Also look at Greywolf's sudden surge of shares up to 21M. Maybe somewhere in all of this these guys want a say in the shareholder vote thus upping their positions.
