I believe that Elon Musk has stated on more then one occasion that they will need hundreds of gigafactory size plants. When and how soon I donot know, but I do know (as many others do) that the daily news flow about energy storage is growing exponentially. With EFL's claim that with their non-NMP process the plant will be at the very bottom of the cost curve globally the company could find themselves capacity constrained by the end of next year or so. A takeover of a shuttered plant in Japan makes sense to me.
