Scottish & Southern Energy Power Distribution (SSEPD) confirms that the results of the targeted Energy Storage and Management Unit (ESMU) trials, along with the installation information, safety considerations and benchmarking of the ESMU devices presented within this document are in line with the evidence criteria specified for the SDRC. It is confirmed that the SDRC criteria has been met.
8. Conclusions
The results of the trials presented in Section 6 confirm that the ESMUs have been tested, with manual control, and that they meet the functional criteria as outlined in the problem statement, hypothesis and test deployment programme [Ref. 04]. The trial results provide evidence that the ESMUs can be utilised on the LV network to:
Balance load between phases (with and without storage);
Provide storage to balance peaks and troughs;
Provide reactive voltage support (with and without storage); and
Improve power quality and harmonics.
In addition, this report has provided: an overview of the ESMU technology, an overview of the installation procedure, outlined the key safety considerations for deployment and benchmarked the ESMU devices. It is therefore confirmed that the SDRC, as defined in the NTVV full bid submission [Ref. 01] and associated change control [Ref. 02 and Ref. 03] has been met.
The overall learning from the deployment of the ESMUs and an assessment of the hypothesis delivered as part of SDRC 9.4a [Ref. 04] will be provided in SDRC 9.4d, which will be delivered in November 2015.
