In the past, on this Message Hub, I’ve criticized the temptation some of us have of joking at someone else’s expense. Well, now, I direct my sternest and fiercest criticism at myself. As we all should know better, so should I.

Bob Granger does not ask for accolades. But, from what I’m learning about him, he deserves credit and praise for his hard dedicated work, often behind the scenes.

Always be suspicious when someone (like me) posts funny pictures, which are beside the point and, on top of that, prove nothing. So far as Bob’s winery business, on examination, clearly he attends to it modestly. For example, the page of the website for the owners’ phone numbers does not include his but does include those of several others.

You may think, someone asked me to write this apology. Well, you’re wrong. It’s my idea. I’m very happy to do it because what I’m doing is correcting a mistake that needs correcting. Is owning up to making a mistake a difficult thing to do? If you don’t go out of your way to make it difficult, it really isn’t.

Being human, I’m subject to human error. Being human, at times, I’ll exercise poor judgment. Being human, at times, I’ll fall into the trap of joking at someone else’s expense (as others do). In this case, (#1) my joking was wrong, (#2) what I was suggesting was wrong, and (#3) going out of my way to do it was wrong.
