Message: The heat issue

Heat is not a friend to polymer dielectrics. If there is a fault, current flows at that site, which increases the temperature, which lowers the resistance, and so more current flows, eventually avalanching to failure.  Some systems counter that by having polymers which don't break down to conductive forms, or counter-electrodes which form an insulating plug. Films do the former, tantalum solids have the latter.
