IMHO; This is so wrong, for so many reasons. 

First, although they would like to have everyone forget the first ten years, it can hardly be divorced with what's going on now. Those ten years were mostly wasted because DW was measuring the parts wrong;  who knows how many critical experiments were wrongly interpreted and the wrong direction chosen.

Second, IC was not blameless, he was involved a lot then, and in the last five. It was under his aegis that IT5 an 6 were released. They were an embarrassment, not even up to products manufactured 10 years ago by a dozen ceramic houses.

Third, It is true they don't "Know the competition"  if they had checked before that fateful IT5&6 testing, they might have prevented a setback. Certainly they had better check them out now, how the heck will they tell where to aim? On balance, I think not knowing their competition was the greatest mistake.
