Hi guys- I came across this fantastic microform edition of a book written in 1881 by W. Chapman.
The web link is as follows : http://www.archive.org/stream/cihm_00574#page/n3/mode/2up
The book describes all of the history of gold exploration and mining in the Beauce region prior to the date it was printed. I read it cover-to-cover with much enthusiasm and would highly recommend it to all.
I am particularly taken by the introductory comments by the author in which he states
"In publishing these pages I had but one aim: that of showing the resources of my country, and I pretend only this: that I have remained in the strict limits of truth"
