I think missing out on an opportunity hurts more than losing a little on a stock.
Reason being, it is not always easy being on the right side of a trade, so selling early when you could have made really decent money hurts more, because you now know you were "right" but yor emotions won you over.
This does simply boil down to risk tollerance, but if you don't have balls of steel, you shouldn't be anywhere near the venture exchange.
This is the exciting part, but for many its just too scary.
