In general, if you are investing in JRs, a L2 quote is imperative. If you generate enough commissions in your discount broker account, they will provide you with a L2 data feed. However, the amount you need to trade to get a free data feed is a lot and it may be cheaper to pay for a 3rd party feed. There are also some accounts which will provide data feeds if your account balance is over a certain balance.
Therefore, if you need an L2 data feed, I suggest you get a free trial from either:

Each of the above services have their pros and cons. What I have found is that Quotestream has a much more professional look and feel to it and it gives you time stamps for each order entry. Stockwatch on the other hand has much better analytics for researching companies.
