Well, I'm not sure where those statements came from. But in any case, they ARE actually consistent, even if the style of wording is different. I think it is more a matter of poor grammar than it is of interpretation.

Both statements are arguing that the US dollar weakness / loss of purchasing power are fuelling the rise in the price of gold.
