A wedge hole is a hole where they go down an existing hole and at some point down the hole, they put a wedge in and force the drill bit in another direction. This saves from drilling another hole from surface and gets you right into the area of interest. I would add that in our case, we have an extremely interesting area from where to wedge a few holes!

The original hole is referred to as the mother hole.
