Canada is not an oil intefrated market to begin with, if you are from east canada there is a pretty good chance that you get your oil from somewhere else than the Alberta, Sask or BC oild Fields. A good example of it is Harvest Energy Trust (HTE.UN) why manages the biggest oil refinery in the maritimes, they get almost all their inputs from Russia and the middle East. At the same time Harvest is also an oil and NG producer in Alberta and not a drop of their product is processed at their refinery.
If the Fed Gvrt decides that they have enough of the high price of crude and decides that we won't export anymore until the national market is fully supplied at let say$80 it would be a breach of our obligations under NAFTA. You think that Bush and friends would just say fine mate dont worry we will ask Hugo to send us a little bit more crude?
