Apparently, long ago, the kingdom monkeys decided to have all their bananas put in safe, custodial keeping with a giant gorilla in exchange for paper certificates of ownership. The gorilla had "perfected" a way to store the bananas indefinitely.

Alas, when the day came for the monkeys to claim their rightful share, the gorilla decided to enstate a "force majour" clause in the custodial contract that negated all legal obligation of delivery. The monkeys were left no alternative but to try to exist on leaves.
