Wow... I won't forget this month anytime soon. Silver is just touching 34$ and I am sure it is bound to keep this up as the resistance seems to have melted. It is very possible that (like last time) they may find a way to give us a swift retaliation, but a bit like Gadaffi it's a doomed effort. I'm buying warrents at the moment with a 40 strike price as I think it's well worth the current value when looking at the very real possibility of a major, major breakout. I think it's funny to hear various industry reps stating that the 'silver conspiracy theorists' are blowing the situation out of proportion... really? Are we? 34 dollar my friends, 34 and rising.
What I am really feeling today however is a mixture of shock and awe. Awe at the bravery of the Libyan people who have seized tanks and weapons and have fought back against Gadaffi, the maddest of the mad men. He has retaliated apparently by attacking crowds indiscriminately with gunships... shocking. One of my close family friends is the son of a former Libyan ambassador and he has told me all sorts of horror stories about Gadaffi... he truly is a mad dictator capable of doing nearly anything during his final days. It is really frightening what the western powers are willing to support in the name of international business and oil. I am sure the 'new middle east' is unlikely to look upon the west very favorably after we have supported these brutal men.
I hope the regime collapses soon before things get worse and more have to lose their lives. I expect major changes in Bahrain as well and (please god let this be true) Saudi Arabia. If the Saudi kingdom falls, look out below as the markets will rock to their core. The last I heard the Saudis hold a few trillion in USD reserves and trillions more in US equities. Imagine if the replacement is hostile to the west (very likely)!?! Hold onto your hats as the young, unemployed but well educated people of the middle east are about to change the very nature of the world political order... I'm hoping that this trend continues as there are so many corrupt and brutal regimes which need toppling, I just hope that as a result we don't see a western backlash, but rather an embracing of democracy, freedom and a desire to join the west rather than fight it. I just wish we had done more positive things for them in the past, because they just don't have much to thank us for...
On the ECU front, we HAVE to pop tomorrow... and I mean really pop. A nice bit of news might help, but the pressure just has to be building. I have been backing this horse for a long time, lets hope it finally starts to sprint!
