Just out of curiosity, I went to autolist.com to see, what sort of Model S Tesla is available as a second hand car. To my surprise, I found only 64 cars of 2013 year and nothing older. The mileage is about 55-70k miles, so Tesla drivers do drive less than an average American does. The highest mileage was 150k, those approaching 200k must be some exceptions. It is also clear, that the second hand markets does not work for Tesla. Somebody keeps the older cars away from the market and I have one suspect.

IMHO, Tesla is cheating a bit on the battery side. I may be able to dig an article about it, but basically what they do is to put more battery cells than required for given capacity and make a SW lock for these additional cells. This extra capacity is used later to keep the capacity higher at least till the 8 years warranty runs out.
