Message: Battery Plant included in the Draft EIS for Thacker Pass

Have to give credit to WB over on TOB for finding this little jewel in the Draft EIS.

It is an important insight into the scope envisioned by the company for the future of LAC, especially for Thacker Pass.  It also does, in fact, strongly suggest the possibility vs probability of a partnership with an existing battery manufacturer since LAC has no history and certainly no experience in the highly technical world of battery technology, much less battery manufacturing.   Of course, and rightly so, every LAC investor should be excited about this possibility at Thacker Pass.

From the Draft EIS:

"3.14 Battery Production

The battery production complex represents the production of next-generation all-solid-state batteries (ASSB). ASSBs replace the flammable liquid electrolyte in conventional lithium ion batteries with a highly stable solid ion-conducting material comprised of lithium products produced at the process plant facilities (Section 3.11 and 3.13). ASSBs achieve a substantial increase in battery energy density as compared to conventional lithium ion batteries through the use of lithium metal as the anode material, also produced at the process plant facilities (Section 3.12). The battery manufacturing process will start with mixing the lithium sulfide electrolyte material produced in the processing plant (Section 3.13) to create a slurry. The slurry will then be fed into a roll-to-roll coater, which deposits the material onto a metal substrate. The coated cathode and separator battery components will be combined with a lithium metal anode, produced at the process plant facilities (Section 3.12), via a lamination step to create a single layer of a battery cell. The layer will then be slit and stacked into the desired battery format. Finally, the cell will be packaged and tested prior to leaving the battery production complex. The battery manufacturing facility will be sized for 10 Gigawatt hours of annual ASSB production in Phase 1."
