Message: Indigenous groups in Chile’s Atacama push to shut down SQM

Similar problems exist for other mining companies in Northern Argentina with indegenous groups.  According to information on LAC's website they are supposed to have a good relationship with the affected indegenous peoples in the area of Cauchari-Olaroz, so the question remains:  Is the picture of a good relationship with indegenous peoples for LAC in Cauchari-Olaroz a reality or is it a myth created by LAC PR?  I honestly don't know, but I don't doubt that there is another side to that issue besides the company line.  As this article linked above about SQM in Chile testifies you can easily see that there is a huge potential to throw a monkey wrench into the mining operation of any mine should the mining company not be perceived as being beneficial to the local people.  SQM found out the hard way.
