Message: Cool Option Activity

Jim, first of all and far more important, I hope you and your family are safe.  We have a few "locals" from Northern Nevada on the Hub so you and I are not the only 2 but all of us know full well the threat of the Caldor Fire.  It is just over on the other side of the Sierras from Minden, although more directly over the hill from Gardnerville.  For anyone still not cognizant about the Caldor Fire it is the one threatening South Lake Tahoe and that has caused a mandatory evacuation of that well known resort city.  Earlier this morning it was only 3 1/2 miles outside of South Lake Tahoe.  Just hope everything is OK with you and your family.

As for Option trading, Jim.  By reading your note I readily see you know a heck of a lot more about it than I do.  My experience has been limited to purchasing Calls, Selling Calls for Covered Call trading, doing some Spread Trades and rarely buying some Puts ( mostly in a "Protective Put" capacity ) as insurance against catastrophic loss of an underlying stock.

Selling Puts takes a lot of guts and a lot more knowledge than I have.  Anyway, there is nothing in my limited Option trading experience that would make sense for me to give any Option trading advice to someone who is more confident in that area.  Besides, almost all of my Option trading was several years back with the recent exception of doing some Covered Call trading on some of my LAC shares with September and November Expirations.

There are several on this Hub who apparently are seasoned Option traders as well, so they also chime in from time to time with various strategems.  Selling Calls in a Covered Call trade is one of the most basic ways to do Option trading and takes a lot less brain power if you do it in such a manner that the Strike Price is acceptable should the shares be called away and you have the premium and the money from the stock sale vs taking the premium as profit and still having the shares should the share price never rise to the level of your Strike price.  It is pretty much child's play compared to selling Puts, so you have my respect.

Bottom line:  I think it is great to have others chime in on their particular Option strategies involving LAC trading.  Glad to have your thoughts!

Again, back to the most important thing:  Stay Safe!!  So many people have been evacuated .  The last I have heard is that Highway 50 going East toward Carson City is jammed pack.  I have lived here 30 years and I have never seen this happen before.  Such a tragic situation.  I love New Orleans as well and a Category 5 Hurricaine is so tragic as well.  Thousands of people sleeping away from home tonight and not knowing if they will have a home to go back to tomorrow.  Our focus on this Hub is LAC and its stock and that isn't a trivial concern, unless you compare it to what the evacuees from all the fires here on the West Coast and the wind, flooding and Hurricane Ida that those on the Gulf Coast are going through.  Those situations are truly tragic.

Best wishes.
