Coeruleus: "they ought to have a beneficial stake in this venture"

In fact, the future LAC employees from the Fort McDermitt Paiute and Shosone Tribe should make valuable, possibly exemplary, workers for LAC at Thacker Pass.  This is a mutual benefit situation and not a one way bribe to the tribe.  Over the years to come the mutual benefit aspect of the CBA should become clear to not only both parties but also to peripherals who will be following with an eagle eye all developments, good and bad, that will accrue over the 46 year life of the mine.

LAC has a real opportunity to become a stellar example to the whole mining industry of what to do right in the field of "community relations".

On the flip side, the CBA that has such opportunity for positive results also has the potential for disaster in the event that LAC should drop the ball and mishandle the CBA.  The CBA is truly a long term commitment and must be undertaken completely in a serious vein over the long haul for it to reap the promise of a continuing positive relationship between the two principal parties of the agreement.

The commitment of LAC in regard to the CBA is not something than can be shelved to the back burner after one or two PRs showcasing the agreement only to fade over time just like one of the countless broken treaties with native American tribes by the U.S. government.  In this case the  LAC will have to continue to perform year after year for the life of the agreement in a positive fashion and thus be in bright and positive contrast to the broken promises littering the history of U.S.-Indian relations for the past two centuries.

LAC can and should do better.  It is a golden opportunity for "Good Neighbors" to obtain mutual benefit.
