OPC, you're obviously a smart guy with a much better shot than most at getting yourself some good healthcare. You can certainly fend for yourself (and likely several others!), but not everyone can.

It's a total mess, though, and a hugely expensive one, making social security look like chump change.

One thing I never hear is to address the supply side - make more doctors or "near doctors" - plenty would like to do that, but can't get into medical school, relax the requirements - I'd rather have someone that really wants do be in the practice, then someone who is just smart but isn't really into it. The dumber, harder working, more dedicated guys can learn from the smarter ones anyway.
