Honestly, I don't believe we need or want an ignore feature. And, IMO, we don't need any "forum member(s) in control" feature. All we need is for Agora to be more aggressive in performing the function they currently perform.
Why did it take so long for my report re: Johnnyjr to be acted upon? Yeah, it was a Sunday, and yeah, more disruptive behavior (coincidently? LOL) seems to occur on weekends. Certainly he was reported multiple times on Friday/Saturday "pre-JR" before his boot on Sunday. I suspect that immediately "jr" was born and went right back at it. That's when I reported. Monitoring?
However, if there were swift action when disruptive or violating posts were initially reported, they could review and monitor, issue a warning (which might be helpful - but is rarely done) - one that could ding not only the errant poster, but also the responder/enabler - monitor a little more, then act, and check back for a reincarnation a little later.
This, IMO, would be most favorable , and avoid a perception of "board control with an agenda".
I recognize this would be a greater burden on Agora. Personally, I wouldn't mind paying a small subscription fee to offset costs (and such a thing would probably stop the "undesireables" - would you pay 5 bucks a month for posting privileges?).
But, really, would it be THAT costly? Agora rep, Sunday Afternoon watching footfall, halftime, check for reports, have a look (violations/disruptive behavior is easy to spot if someone's pointing at it), act. Five minutes? Ten minutes? Heck, he'd still have time to run to 7-11 for another six-pack before the game restarted! So, in that sense, I don't see it as that much of a burden. Falls under the category of "do it right", IMO. Or more like "walk the talk" - they advertise that they perform monitoring.
So IF Agora can come up with a way to "do it right", that would be the best of all worlds IMO.
I have to say, during this last week I have seriously considered just abandoning Agora and going back to RB (after 4-5+ years) - and using the ignore feature to the extreme. It would be better than reading endless, pointless, often mindless crap.
I don't want to be placed in a position of jumping back to "Patriot Forum" between reading each post, and then selecting my next "read". But, for me that will be the way I'll do it upon recognizing a "disruptor". But then I'll still be stuck wading through the responses to the errant. Maybe an "in response to" detail in the Patriot Forum listing would help. Sorry - brainstorming.
JMHOs,
