though I didn't get the connection: warrants off the books? If accumulation/control were their objective, why did they covert the warrant?

Though you acknowledge that you aren't sure such a thing is possible, IMO the reality would ultimately reveal itself, and he'd (S&L) be in very hot water.
Just enjoying the discussion/friendly argument. It's interesting how "camps" form over this type of speculation. In any case, it helps keep the gray matter busy (no, not what's left of my hair - the other gray matter! LOL).
