the stars are for your opinion of value brought to board by poster, the thumbs up/down are for that particular message. you would think though that if a particular poster continued to bring good information to the board and as a result people took the time to give them many thumbs up, they would also give them 4 or 5 stars? get past the personal bias from past interactions and be fair.
