I think you are confusing the issue (no disrespect intended). Correct me if I'm wrong, but if a particular patent is invalidated, then use by anyone is free. The technology is still there - it doesn't "go away". The fact that another, valid patent is integral to the defunct patent does not subtract from the value of the valid patent.
Your analogy to nitro-glyceran does not apply unless it is twisked thus:
First, you have to pay for both components. Then, for some reason, one of the components becomes available for free. Does the BOOM change?
