Having worked over 20 in the medical software field I know the industry is a very tough nut to crack.
Having said that, I also know of small start-up companies who due to their unique niche in hardware or software became relatively profitable almost overnight due to changing goverment regulations.
With PTSC/crossflow it could be a push toward medical electronic records that gives them a possible niche. Who knows?
What I do know is that I was involved in developing a electronic medical record interface from a card a patient would bring to the hospital. We tested it. It worked great but it was never put to production. The year. 1993!!
There is new stuff being developed all the time but until REGS mandate it will not become widespread.
