I'd "guess" that if there is a correlation that its that the lower SP (not higher SP) is correlated with more bankruptcies. The reason is that the market probably drives SP down before the bankruptcy is announced.

In any case, for someone to say it's less risky to own a lower PPS stock is just silly.
