Might I suggest that with a CFO and an internal accounting department, and independent accountants and presumably an auditor, an accountant, or even a finanical expert, is not a priority for a BOD.
I understand where you are coming from here, but the financial function of any company is important enough to have BoD oversight by "someone" or a committe made up of "someones" with heavy public accounting experience IMO. Also, the Internal Audit function is/should be independant, and report to the BoD (Audit Committee), not CFO or CEO. This independance has to be maintained to have the proper checks and balance in place, and this function needs to have an advocate at the BoD level with financial experience to make sure their voice is heard. I think your/my concern is more along the lines of your last question. Just my opinion and 2 cents.
Good luck everyone.
