Are you familiar with the Constitution and who CONTROLS the purse strings of goverment? lol
Facts, your chart for starters proves that there was NEVER a SURPLUS. Thanks for showing that.
Secondly, Democrats controlled Congress from 75-80, 87-94. In those years, 2.376T was added to the debt.
Republicans controlled Congress from 95-00, and 03-06. In those years, 3.260Twas added to the debt.
The other years in that chart were jointly controlled Congresses.
Granted, in that window Republican controlled Congresses spent more. I don't know what the numbers are if adjusted for inflation, but obviously that gap is less than on the face.
If you add in 07-10, the Dem numbers well overtake the Republican numbers.
Additionally, fighting 2 wars has been expensive, no doubt, and while that spending happened under Republican control mostly, Democrats voted for the war just as much as Republicans, so you can't push the baby into the street and then hem and holler about how it got there and how much it costs to save it. No more so than Republicans can shout about 07-10.
It's charts like that that bring to mind Kool Aid drinkers IMO. Looks good on the surface, but hardly indicative of anything real in reality.
