Raillery, we are definitely in the same peer group. My dad was born in 1898 and his brother (my uncle) served in WWI. Dad joined also, but the war ended just six weeks later, so he never actually served.
I have a cousin who served in WWII and two cousins-in-law that are also WWII vets. All three are still living. We have very interesting family reunions. My dad's youngest brother was in the Army Air Corp and was lost in late 1942.
Our generation is the last to really know the REAL America and what it was like growing up in the prevailing patriotic atmosphere. The kids today just won't ever understand why our hearts beat a little faster when we see the flag go by and why we are so very, very angry when someone belittles this country of ours.
