You've confirmed my "prejudice"—brokers aren't much help; better off doing your own DD and placing orders with a discount broker. I use TDAmeritrade, $9.99, and Vanguard $8 for most orders though way more for stocks under $1 and some non-Vanguard mutual funds.

Thanks for your responses. You've blown away another of my prejudices; I always thought rich people were stuck up.
