Alan Coutts, P.Geo
President & CEO
Alan Coutts was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Noront on October 1, 2013. He has more than 30 years of domestic and international experience in mining exploration, feasibility, construction and production across a broad range of commodities. Most recently, Mr. Coutts was with Xstrata Nickel as Managing Director, Australasia based in Perth, Australia and prior to that was General Manager, at Xstrata’s Brunswick Mine in Canada. He previously was with Falconbridge where he held a variety of roles including General Manager, Chief Geologist and Regional Exploration Manager. Mr. Coutts has an Honours degree in Geology from the University of Alberta and Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo) status in the province of Ontario.
Paul Parisotto

Paul Parisotto joined the Board of Directors on June 6, 2008. He is President of Coniston Investment Corporation, which provides investment banking and M&A advisory services to small cap public and private companies. He served as Interim CEO of Noront Resources from January to October 2013 and Co-Interim CEO from November 2008 to June 2009. Previously he was President and CEO of Tamaka Holdings, Calico Resources Corporation and Arizona Star Resource Corporation, which was acquired by Barrick Gold Corporation. Earlier in his career, Mr. Parisotto built and led the mining industry corporate finance business for a Canadian investment dealer. Prior to that he served as Manager, Original Listings at the Toronto Stock Exchange where he was involved in the listing process for over 250 companies. He has an Honours BA in Economics from Laurentian University.
Jean Paul Gladu

JP Gladu was appointed to the Board of Directors on April 7, 2017. He is currently President and CEO of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB) based in Toronto. Anishinaabe from Thunder Bay, Mr. Gladu is a member of Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek located on the eastern shores of Lake Nipigon in Ontario. He has more than two decades of experience in the natural resource sector, including work with Aboriginal communities and organizations, environmental NGOs, industry and governments. In his current capacity at CCAB, Mr. Gladu speaks extensively across Canada and internationally sharing the challenges and successes of Canadian Aboriginal businesses. He received an Executive MBA from Queens University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry from Northern Arizona University and a Forestry Technician diploma from Sault College of Applied Arts and Technology.
John Pollesel, CPA, CMA

John Pollesel was appointed to the Board of Directors on June 7, 2017. Mr. Pollesel has more than 26 years of experience in the mining industry and is currently Senior Vice President, Mining for Finning (Canada). In his previous role as Chief Operating Officer and Director for Vale’s North Atlantic Operations, John was responsible for one of the largest mining and metallurgical operations in Canada. He has chaired Finance, Audit, HSE, Compensation and Advisory Committees in addition to holding Director positions at Northern Superior Resources, Calico Resources Corporation and numerous Not-for-Profit organizations. He holds an Honours BA in Accounting and an MBA from the University of Waterloo and Laurentian University respectively. He is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant and a Fellow of CPA Ontario and the Society of Management Accountants of Ontario.
Bo Liu

Bo Liu was appointed to the Board of Directors on April 7, 2017. Mr. Liu has held the position of Senior Manager of Global Resources Development with Baosteel Resources International Co. Ltd. since November 2010. Previously, Mr. Liu held several positions within Baosteel Resources Co. Ltd., including Senior Manager of Resources Planning and Developing Department (August 2008-October 2010) and Senior Manager of Alloys Trading and Developing (Aug 2006-July 2008). Mr. Liu graduaded from Tongji University in Shanghai, China with a Master Degree of Business Management.
Sybil Veenman, LL.B, ICD.D

Sybil Veenman was appointed to the Board of Directors on August 25th, 2015. Ms. Veenman is a corporate director serving on three public company boards. She has over 20 years of mining indisutry experience, most recently as Senior Vice-President and General Counsel at Barrick Gold Corporation. In addition to Noront, she sits on the board of directors of IAMGOLD Corporation and Royal Gold Inc. Ms. Veenman holds a law degree from the University of Toronto and has completed the Institute of Corporate Directors, Director Education Program.
Gregory Honig, ICD.D

Gregory Honig joined the Board on February 27, 2020. Mr. Honig has over 15 years of experience in the mining industry with extensive capital markets, M&A, and corporate development experience. Prior to joining RCF, Gregory worked for Xstrata Nickel as Director – Business Development and for Orion Securities as Senior Analyst – Mining Investment Banking. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of First Drilling LLC and received his ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. Mr. Honig has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University.
Matthew Quinlan, CPA, CFA

Matthew Quinlan was appointed to the Board of Directors on June 25, 2020. Mr. Quinlan has 25 years of experience in finance, capital markets and the global mining industry and is currently the CFO of Pretivm. Prior to Pretivm, he was the interim CFO and Chief Commercial Officer of Trevali and the CFO of Dominion Diamond Corporation, the world’s third largest diamond mining company. Over the course of a fifteen-year career in investment banking he acted as lead advisor/underwriter in over $40bn of transactions in the global mining industry and was Managing Director and Co-head of CIBC’s Global Mining investment banking group. Matthew holds a BSc. (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering with Business Finance from University College London and The London School of Economics and Political Science. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
Stephen Flewelling, P.Eng.

Steve Flewelling was appointed Senior Vice President, Mining & Projects in June 2015 and brings more than 30 years of experience in exploration, feasibility planning, project development, construction and operations to his role at Noront. He has worked domestically and abroad in a variety of roles across multiple commodities. Most recently, Mr. Flewelling was Senior Vice President, Projects & Exploration at Glencore/Xstrata Nickel with responsibility for worldwide project development and the company’s project pipeline. Prior to that he held various senior positions at Glencore/Xstrata and its predecessor companies, including President of Falcondo, a laterite mining and ferronickel smelting facility in the Dominican Republic. Mr. Flewelling has an Honours degree in Mining Engineering from Queen’s University and Professional Engineering status in the province of Ontario.
Gregory Rieveley, CPA, CA

Greg Rieveley is a finance executive with 20 years of experience in the mining and retail industries. He has expertise in mergers and acquisitions, financing, public company accounting and disclosure, financial and risk management. Prior to joining Noront, Mr. Rieveley was Vice President, Internal Audit and Business Development at Harry Winston Diamond Corporation (formerly Aber Diamond Corporation). He also worked as Controller for Dundee Precious Metals, a mid-sized copper and gold producer. Mr. Rieveley is a Chartered Professional Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia.
Ryan Weston, M.Sc., MBA, P.Geo
Vice President, Exploration
Ryan Weston is a registered Professional Geologist with 20 years experience in exploration for both base and precious metals internationally. Previously, Ryan served as Senior Geologist with Cliffs Natural Resources working in the Ring of Fire where he developed an intimate understanding of the geology and mineralizing systems associated with chromite and Ni-Cu-PGE deposits within the belt. Subsequent to this, Ryan served as Chief Geologist with Carlisle Goldfields, advancing their regional gold projects in northern Manitoba and culminating with the sale of Carlisle to Alamos Gold in early 2016. Ryan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geology from the University of Toronto, a Master’s Degree in Geology from Laurentian University and is a MBA graduate from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University.
Mark Baker, P.Eng
Vice President, Projects
Mark Baker is a Professional Engineer with over 35 years of experience in mining and consulting engineering. He has had technical and management roles in developing and delivering projects and managing project teams, including projects for major nickel mining companies. Mr. Baker joined Noront in 2010 to lead project teams for nickel and chromite mines and a ferrochrome smelter. Before this, he was a Vice President for both Seneca Engineering and Virtual Engineers, and Business Development Manager at WorleyParsons Canada, Minerals and Metals. He spent 12 years at ICI Explosives where his roles included leading plant design in the Americas and Europe and serving as Engineering Manager for Canadian operations. Mr. Baker has both Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in Mining Engineering from Queen’s University.
Glenn Nolan
Vice President, Government Affairs
Glenn Nolan has spent his career involved in the areas of resource development, indigenous relations and government issues. Early in his mining career, Mr. Nolan understood the importance of working closely and directly with indigenous communities. He is committed to continuing the creation of greater partnership development between communities and the mineral industry. In 2001, Mr. Nolan changed his focus and was elected Chief of the Missanabie Cree First Nation and served for three consecutive terms, ending in August 2010. He is a past President of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada and was the first Indigenous President in the organization’s history. He is a graduate of Sault College.
