shares have to be marginable, you have to have at least 140% of the amount of the trade in your account, and most importantly, when you set up your account, the broker asks you if:

you will allow them to use the stocks that in your accounts. You can change that if it is to 'NO' .. then they cant use it ..

Thats where the deal is - info from my former broker..
