Armistice Day Was the original name to remember the signing of the General Armistice officially ending WWI.
In the States they went to Veterans Day in 1954, i believe. In Newfoundland they continue to refer to it as Armistice Day though the official name may have been changed to conform with Canada, which in its own turn made the legal change to 'Rememberance Day'in the 1970's(?) to include WWII and the Korean War. Newfoundland has its own special day on July 1st (Beaumont Hammel Day - check on spelling), and was not pleased when Canada adopted this date for Canada Day (also in the 1970's). Canada has that habit.
