I think the US is much worse off than even your scenario. Inflation is eating us up and the dollar is tanking. The government is unwilling to slow down spending and or raise taxes. Interest rates are too low but if they are increased the economy would falter so they will not raise. All we are doing is slowing down the pain we must suffer before the ship can get back on course. Politicians seem to only care about getting reelected because they can not be this stupid when it comes to our economy.
