It means a lot actually if your using the same amount of money to purchase shares. 

 Using 7,000 as a purchase amount:

1.20 *  6000 shares =  7,200 dollars

3.50 * 2000 shares = 7,000 dollars

 That's why people sell high and buy low.  They keep recycling their money into more money....of course they can also miss the big one or crash and burn as well.

Thats why you average down.  Keep buying lower and lower on the dips until your position is based on a lower average price.  Pretty simple.  Probably not what you needed to know, but maybe someone else does.
