East West, Mega sign deal with Xstrata

East West Resource Corp. and partner Mega Uranium Ltd. have signed an option deal giving Xstrata Copper a 51-per-cent interest in two northwestern Ontario properties if Xstrata spends $3-million on project development over four years. The Hamlin and Deaty Creek properties, totalling 157 claim units, cover a seven-kilometre-long area related to an iron oxide copper gold (IOCG) system. Switzerland-based Xstrata PLC, which acquired Canada's Falconbridge Ltd. about a year ago, can earn an additional 24-per-cent interest by spending $20-million on a feasibility study. EWR (TSX Venture) was unchanged at 11 cents. MGA (TSX) fell 8 cents to $3.32. XTA (London) fell 85 pence ($1.67) to & 34.65.
