The five major Canadian banks are hurting!!! They usually make a billion dollars a quarter and hand out big dividends. With the ABCP fiasco, they probably will make only a couple hundred million - and alas, no dividend for their shareholders.

Therefore, in order to make a few bucks, it's play time on the TSX Venture Exchange manipulating share prices for the likes of Noront Resources. I expect it will be the only way for this year's managerial bonuses and BMWs.

Canadian banks can't easily lose money because of a Canadian government sponsored monopoly. However, financial institutions in the USA fail with some regularity. ANB Financial (Arkansas?) failed on May 9, 2008.
