I still do not buy the theory that shorting "provides liquidity". As far as I am concerned, they are all thieves who provide nothing of value to anyone but themselves. If honest, fair traders wish to take advantage of market downturns, they have the option of using the options markets to trade in.

Instead we have to put up with these bloodsuckers who can not be satisfied with a win by betting on the downside; they also want to use the system to manipulate SP downward after they place their bets. The fox put in charge of guarding the hen house!
