Charles Schwab advises me that:

1) If you do NOT have a Margin account, your shares in a company cannot be loaned out for shorting, period. I don't trade on margin so my shares are safe. :-)

2) For Margin accounts, the NEW regulations now require that Brokerage houses DELIVER the shares for shorting i.e. no more NAKED short selling.

3) The old rule that any stock selling for under $3.00 could not be shorted is NO LONGER valid.

I just hope the authorities reinstate the Uptick rule!
