IMHO short selling makes no sense.

Why would anyone knowingly lend his shares to another whose sole pupose is to drop the price on those same shares?

That works against the lender. What am I missing?

It is like handing your mugger your "black jack" and telling him to use yours as it is bigger

There are other instruments avaiable for betting against some stocks.

Of course "naked short" selling is worse.

Does anyone know if anyone is monitoring "naked short" selling?

I'm guessing it is rampant...but I don't really know

Does anyone know if regular short selling is monitored to any extent?

I hope is isn't an "honor" system.
