Jean,

You asked why they would want to cause the value of the company to go down. It makes more sense if you figure in the fact that Rousseau knows how to short a junior, and will have access to insider information. It also makes sense if a major wants NOT and is willing to offer a lot of sweet deals to your hedge fund in the future.
