Great find Notster and very interesting read to say the least.
5. Support the First Nations in matters relating to mineral exploration
The Matawa Economic Development department continues to support the First Nations in an advisory role on
mining issues. In the past we have provided advisory services to Neskantaga, Webequie, Marten Falls, and Aroland
First Nations. In the future we expect our advisory services to be used by all Matawa First Nations because mineral
exploration is becoming increasingly active in the Matawa territory. We continue to promote our communities
to the mining industry through promotional materials and trade shows. In March 2008 we attended the major
Prospectors Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) trade show in Toronto, which was a very successful start to
promoting our communities to the industry. The exchange of information between us and industry was extremely
useful in building relations. The Ministry of Northern Development and Mines was very helpful in getting us space
at the trade show.
Finally we are studying the prospects of setting up a junior mineral exploration company since there is considerable
mineral potential in the Matawa region. This work includes seeking funds to retain expertise to assist in the setting
up the company and to seek financing for the purpose of acquiring properties, earning into projects or staking new
claims. The company will be owned by the Matawa communities that wish to participate.
